Changing Chineham
A replacement landmark is, of course the new incinerator. Suggestions of a suitable (and usable) name for this incinerator have so far not been forthcoming [Chinehams Folly? Ed.]. Either way, as it is neither in Chineham nor wanted by Chineham, it should be given a new name. Indeed, the continuous burning of waste is now being inflicted upon us, with the first report of smells and ash deposits flooding in. The parish council is taking every available step to provide screening especially for those suffering the more unfriendly view from around Thornhill Way.

The incinerator has now completed "on line" commissioning and is burning rubbish 24 hours a day. If you are interested in visiting the emission monitoring website to see how successful all the control devices are, don't bother. Whilst we are led to believe that all emissions are being constantly and thoroughly monitored, the technology for putting this computerised data on the net is so challenging that it will seemingly take another six months to go on line. Stop Press
Arising from the recent appalling pollution over Chineham, Chris Tomblin suggested that the EA closed down the incinerator pending source clarification and bringing matters under control. Amazing !!
